Any whay I'm thinking of doing some more seriousprograming and would like some advice, especialy as to what compiler I should use. I best mention I'm useing my laptop that runs XP S2. Any advice on what tp use and where to get tutorials would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hi, welcome to GDN. Mostly we use FreeBASIC. If you almost a complete novice, this is a good place to start. See Getting Started with FreeBASIC. We are currently running our "Beginner Programming in FreeBASIC class", which meets every night at 6 PM central. We are on the second week of the two-week course, but you are welcome to participate or just sit in.
The class meets in the local chat room.
If you are not a complete beginner, Matt's advice is best. :) —hartnell
Good decision, once you've learnt BASIC you can move onto something like C. :)
