I think it's time we got serious about getting the basics written down so that we can move on. So, I've written a series of goals. Here's the first one :

• All game creation tools, except Game Maker should have all the material a novice needs to create a "hello world" example.

I'll post the next goal after we achieve this one. As these goals get more advanced, it's going to take some thinking and planning from everyone. —hartnell

You mean examples of hello world in as many language as possible?
In that case, i would expand a bit and do guess a number or related program ratherly. hello world is just a line or two of code practically in every language. guess the number or some similar would give way better picture of language but is still short and simple example.

Im also goin to do guess a number in Bash Script when i have time. You can use those if you want.

Here's the thing about why "hello world" is so complex.

The user first needs to make a decision on what software he wants to use. We need to make sure that he has that information.

Once the user has made his choice, he needs to know how to download and set up the software.

Then, the user needs instructions on "hello world."

Well, I'm not sure I'd really know what to say for that. I've only used Basic4GL (although learning C++), I wouldn't know how to really compare it or anything to other languages.

Alright. Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:

Pros:
Is free
Built-in OpenGL capabilities
Sprite capabilities
Network Engine for online interaction

Cons:
Uses some old BASIC methods, such as gosub-return.

I'd make a new page for it but I'd rather have what's going to be put there down first. And there's no doubt more than I can think of right now.
