I've always been completely facinated with games and now that I'm a little bit older, I want to learn what actually makes them tick. Every now and then I try to achieve the knowledge on how to create a game but I can't seem to suck in all the information needed to do this. In other words, I don't know where to begin. I came across this website when I was looking for any information on how to do this. Somewhere I saw someone say in order to be able to create a game, you need to take baby steps. That is exactly what I need because in ratio to other people on video game design, I'm on the low end of the stick. I'm willing to learn anything and everything about game design.
Hey whats up. It's very very good that you understand that you can't make the next Halo or AOE right now. There are so many options for learning to make a game.
For web-based games, learn Flash or Silverlight.
For executables (downloadable game) you should learn something like Basic4GL, or Brutus2D, FreeBasic even.
XNA and C# are great too.
Get on the Gabbly Chat sometime today and I could talk to you a little more in depth about all of these and maybe point you in the right direction a little better.
