For teaching hackers about converting from one number base to another…..

GDN has discovered a series of coded messages and been able to decipher only the fact that the DAY NUMBER portion of the messages date is instumental in decoding it.

========================================
If the message is dated 8 Dec 2007, the base would be 8

Then the hacker converts the numbers from Base(daynumber) into Base(10),
… then converts to ASCII. This would come after Square1's assignment, of course.)

I saw them in QBExpress 24. They look like fun.
I see forum posts about them and even reference made to them on your FB Tutorial page.
I would like to find them on your site.
I've check several FB Tutorials and even the GDN site map.
The Hacker has managed to evade my every detection.
Has he moved? Been liquidated? Sold out to MicroSoft?

Er, no, it was originally intended to be a wiki / book and was hosted here. There was much that was supposed to happen with it when I gave it to QBE to be a regular feature, but it was severely goofed. Only one challenge was to be published at a time and it wasn't even formatted correctly. It spurred me for a minute to continue work on the series but I got dragged down again. (And I'm still cleaning the mess here.)

I think you have both skill and the right idea about challenges so I'll contact other people who have expressed interest and try to get us all together. In the meantime, please post more challenge ideas :)

—hartnell

Hi again,

My own availability can be a bit patchy at times as well, but the concept is up my alley and being involved won't hurt my own learning curve, so I sure would be happy lending a hand.

I gather initially it was just meant to be a regular contribution to QBE, where do you want to take it now?

Actually there's been much talk behind the scenes about turning FBHacker into a wiki / book. Since the publication of FBHacker in QBE, many people have discovered it. If I were to start an FBHacker project, would you be interested in helping out? I'm really busy and even though I really want to do this, I can't dedicate the time without for-sure gonna-be-there dedicated members to help.

—hartnell
