Hello,

I am a bachelor in game development (although I am looking to be a game designer) and while I am looking for a job still (graduated a few months ago) I am spending my time working on a blog of mine and making games. The most recent game I made is a TCG that anyone may print and play. If you wish to see what its all about check out my blog - you can download it from there.

nom7ak.blogspot.com

If anyone would like to do a project with me I would be happy to! You will find the Battlefields TCG archive attached to this post. I hope you enjoy the stuff I do on my blog and I am looking forward to any questions or suggestions.

Yeah, it works fine now, and I can play it which is good. :)

It's good, seems to work fine and has some good questions. My advice would be to give it some more questions and actually randomly generate some of them so it's not always the same.

By the way, you can now download the .exe version here. This one won't require Flash Player to be on your computer to play, so if you've been playing it in your browser I'd suggest playing this version 'cause it'll probably run better. It is larger though (but still slightly less than a mb).

Also, I have realised a slight problem/bug with the game. It would seem that after dying and restarting, you may encounter the problems that others have experienced. I'm fairly sure this is due to my method of shutting down the game after death and then re-initialising it- because, to my frustration, upon going to a different Scene from AS, Flash will continue to execute the previous code, so I simply resorted to placing all the game code into an if (alive) condition. However, I'm thinking that upon re-initialisation, my lack to properly clean up the left-overs of the previous run may be interfering with it. If I can be bothered, I might try fix this, but considering it's too late for anything to count (competition-wise), I may not.

I've just implemented aiming and firing of the AI, and it works like a charm :) I even lost my first game against it. So that part is taken care of, it now shoots reasonably good shots, with human-like mistakes.

What i want it to do is move around a bit smartly. I want it to use the rocks for cover, and not just be an open target. My research seems to be telling me that the tank that is further away from the rock between the two, has an advantage. This is because it actually can get the other tank in line-of-sight without itself being in line-of-sight, ergo, it can fire without being fired upon.

Here's a "drawing"

' | ___ +-|-+ / \ +---+ | o | |rock| | o | +---+ \____/ +-|-+ |

The negative side of being further away from the rock is that it is slower around the rock, so if it has more damage, the tank closer to the rock can just charge out from the rock and kill it. So i guess i have to work this into the ai also.
So i guess i need to take damage and distance to the covering rock into account. and probably some other stuff too.

Aaaanyways, I check the first post for download info.

Assuming all you'd want it do is move around and shoot, I'd think random movement would be good enough for the base. :P Although you could take things into account like it makes sure it only moves to a point where it has a clear shot at the player, or perhaps if it's low on Health it tries to find a nearby spot that provides it with cover. Anything else you'd want it to do?

I have updated this to include collision detection and damage. Also there is a delay between the firing of the shell and until it hits. It looks kinda cool i think. Try it out (if you can).

The collision test is done when you fire by simply calculating if the line between the tank and the target collides with any object on the screen. This is a simple line-circle intersection test. I give my shell thickness by adding the shells size to the radius of the circle i am testing against. Works like a charm :) Anyway, the farther the intersection with a circle is, the more the explosion is delayed giving the impression that the shell is traveling through the air, even though you don't see anything but the recoil of the cannon and the explosion some ms later.

Now if anybody could just tell me how i make the enemy AI and i would have a game done here! Currently the enemy cannon is tracking the player. I need to make some kind of decision when to fire, and i need to make the enemy move around to protect himself and/or chase the player.

Yeah, it can lag a little bit on players that aren't the best, e.g. just in your browser which is why I put the .swf for download. Although the problem might be the enemies and all their memory variables (it's I think 500 variables per enemy for that… although that was cut down from originally 1000). So sometimes the levels will speed up once you've killed a few enemies.

As for the feedback for the Special modes, that was generally what the screen overlays were for, e.g. if you press Rewind the screen should go partly blue. But ah well.

As for the download, I'm gonne re-upload the actual .swf for now and upload the (larger) .exe once I'm back to broadband speed (tomorrow).

Alright, I said it would be done a few days ago but putting in my friend's levels took longer than I thought. :P

Ok, it's Low Battery. You play Tim the TV Tuner, who was out servicing a TV one day when he got sucked into it. :) As such, your aim is to get out of the TV. This is done by playing through the 3 zones of about 4 levels each, through differing enemies and Channel Boxes that get in your way and by using your Time Controls and, should you get them, the Videos that each give you a special ability.

This was made for a competition over here in Australia, that's basically nation-wide. Normally, of course, I'd have made this in Basic4GL- but, the competition required I work in either Flash or Game Maker, so I chose Flash. I still like B4GL, but learning ActionScript has at least been interesting, and hopefully I can make use of it later on.

As such, you need Flash Player on your computer to play it. It's a Flash Player 7 file.

Instructions are in the game itself.

Download the .swf here.

There would seem to be a slight bug in the game- on a very rare occasion, the level might not load properly and as a result it may be impossible to finish the first level. Normally, of course, I'd fix this- but out of the many tests I've done, it's only ever happened once, and that was only after I checked it after on of my friends had the problem. So you probably won't get it, but if you do, it should fix itself by closing the .swf file and running it again.

And by the way, the enemies that don't move in the 2nd Zone aren't a bug- they're meant to be that way, they're fake.

Anyway, I think that's all there is to say. :P Any problems, just ask me.
